If you're visiting Ghana from the USA, UK, Europe, Asia or elsewhere, your home driving licence alone is not valid for self-drive car rental -- Ghana requires an International Driving Permit (IDP) alongside it. This is easy to arrange before you travel through your home country's motoring authority (the AA in the UK, AAA in the US, for example), and DriveGH accepts a valid IDP for self-drive bookings.

If you'd rather not navigate unfamiliar roads on a first visit, a driver-included rental removes that concern entirely -- particularly worth considering for travel outside Accra and Kumasi, where road conditions and local driving norms differ from what you may be used to. Night driving outside the main cities is generally not recommended for visitors, regardless of experience.
